Ignatius Book Fairs: Featured on The Drew Mariani Show!

In March, Ignatius Book Fairs was featured on Relevant Radio’s The Drew Mariani Show! During the first segment of his March 13 episode, Drew interviewed Mark Middendorf, President of Ave Maria University and founding member of Ignatius Book Fairs. The two discussed the mission of Ignatius Book Fairs and the future of book fairs across the country.

A Scholastic Alternative | “Were Trying to Stand in the Breach”

Middendorf began by explaining the mission of Ignatius Book Fairs and identified the great need for virtuous literature in today’s world. He also spoke with Mariani about the trajectory of mainstream publishers, such as Scholastic, and the need for alternatives.

“We’re trying to give an alternative that aligns our Catholic values from kindergarten through eighth grade that will really edify our children’s minds, shape their character, and deepen their faith” — Mark Middendorf

Inside the Partnership | Ave Maria University and Ignatius Press

Mariani also asked Middendorf about the partnership between AMU and Ignatius Press. Middendorf explained, “We have about 600 titles, and every one of those titles is fully vetted,” to ensure that each child receives uplifting and virtuous content. These titles come from a wide array of publishers including Ignatius Press, Magnificat, Augustine Institute, and other orthodox Catholic publishers.

Middendorf praised the work of Fr. Joseph Fessio of Ignatius Press, who was also instrumental in the founding of Ignatius Book Fairs. Fessio worked “twelve hours a day” to ensure that the fairs got off to a great start. The collaboration between AMU and Ignatius Press has made it possible for Ignatius Book Fairs to thrive and expand to schools across the country.

Founding the Fair | Consecrated to The Blessed Mother

Another reason why Ignatius Book Fairs has been so successful? Middendorf explained that the entire project was consecrated to Blessed Virgin Mary from the start.

“We signed the partnership on September 8, on her birthday” —Mark Middendorf

Middendorf expressed certainty that God has blessed the fairs from the founding and knows that with God’s blessing, many bright days are ahead.

The Future of Children’s Literature? | A Wholesome Horizon

Additionally, Middendorf commented on the future of children’s literature and expressed his belief that Ignatius Book Fairs would continue to help students gain “well-formed hearts and minds” for years to come. He also hinted at the future of Ignatius Book Fairs and its plan to author new literature specifically for the fairs!

“You’re making a big, big difference, and we’re grateful for what you’re doing” —Drew Mariani
